We’ve taken portraits, now what can we do with them? Part I

We’ve taken portraits, now what can we do with them? Part I Jolene Kaneshige PhotographyCongratulations on taking amazing and memorable Surprise Engagement Proposal, Destination Wedding, or Family Portraits in Hawaii! The biggest and best recommendation that I have is to display your beautiful works of art! Whether it’s a giant portrait above your fireplace or in your living room, these are definitely photos that you want to have seen, especially when you have guests over! It also prompts conversations such as: “Wow! Where did you get your photos taken?” or “Remember that time in Hawaii?”

Since it tis the season, here in Hawaii, and the Holidays are quickly approaching, here are a few of my favorite ideas and pro tips from me to you on fun and creative ways to make the most out of your wonderful portraits during the holidays.

  • Obligatory Christmas greeting cards. Although it might sound cliche and everyone does it, I think it’s definitely a Holiday necessity. This is a great way to catch everyone up to speed on what you and your fiancee, spouse, or family have been up to this year!

Pro Tip: Include a little note about highlights from this year. There is a lot that happens in a year and it’s hard to keep an eye on everyone. It’s also a great way to add other new and exciting announcements such as: save the date cards for an upcoming wedding, birth announcement, 1st birthday party, or family reunion gatherings (in Hawaii! *wink*). It’s so much fun to get greeting cards in the mail! It makes me super excited and I always appreciate getting holiday cards and notes from friends, family, and clients (hint hint*). Thank you! It really means a lot to me!

  • Photo Frames for the Christmas tree – I’m a bit crafty and after the initial craziness of the holiday season I find that there are pockets of down time. What I like to do is to send a bunch of my favorite photos to the printer. Then spend some time with family and friends to craft handmade Christmas tree ornaments and listen to festive cheerful Christmas music. It really adds something to the holiday spirit, a more personal touch.

Pro tip. Make photo frames out of popsicle sticks, mini photo frames, scrap booking accessories, a glue gun, and spray glue adhesive. Also, this is the perfect time to debut your new experimental holiday cake recipe and spice things up a bit by passing around the eggnog!
