Surprise Engagements are one of our favorite moments to photograph and plan; so when Hung contacted us to help him plan a memorable proposal on Oahu, we were honored and excited to help him plan his big moment!

Planning:

Once the time and date were set, the next step was choosing the perfect venue on Oahu. That alone is quite a difficult decision as there are many wonderful venues to choose from! Hung decided on Waialae Beach. (For more information about this venue, check out our blog about Waialae Beach). Our proposal planning team then set out to work on all the fine details to craft that one of a kind proposal.

Planning a proposal is a lot like planning a small destination wedding. There are a lot more details to plan out than you think. Proposals can be as simple or as elaborate as each couple chooses, but even the simplest of proposals pose it’s planning challenges. When we collaborated with Hung, we worked on all the details,from checking the weather to an alternate “plan B” in case of rain. Our design and planning team presented a few ideas to Hung about how he could propose. It started out as a simple photoshoot surprise engagement, but it soon became something more custom built! The end result: he chose to create a unique and cinematic experience for his fiancée to be; which included photography, videography, a romantic picnic, and a beautiful red rose petal heart in the sand to kneel down and propose in.

More custom work equals more attention to detail while keeping a sharp eye on the bigger picture as well! No detail was left out! Hung chose to have a pink rose theme decor for the romantic mini picnic. A sweet old fashioned picnic basket filled with delectable treats, a comfy pillow, pink rose petals leading to the picnic set up, each detail lovingly planned! Our team was excited for Hung and KhaDinh! We couldn’t wait for the day of the proposal!

The Proposal:

The day of the proposal, Hung led his gorgeous soon to be fiancée to the picnic. They enjoyed a private, romantic picnic: comprised of chilled bottled waters,decadent, fresh chocolate covered strawberries, and a cool, crisp bottle of apple cider at Waialae Beach Park,which is located on the east side of Oahu, a stone’s throw from the lovely Kahala Hotel and Waialae Country Club. Cool breezes dance through its shores, the calming songs of the crashing waves, and that golden Hawaiian sun all play together at this stunning locale!

Our media team was already silently in action, secretly taking pictures and filming our “stars” during their special moments. We were ready and waiting on pins and needles, eagerly awaiting to capture that moment when Hung would propose! Suddenly, we saw Hung gently lead KhaDinh to the gorgeous red rose petal heart in the sand, where he knelt down on one knee and ever so carefully presented that coveted ring and asked, “ Will you Marry Me?”

Her answer? “Yes!” The amazing couple celebrated together! They shared a few minutes privately engulfed in love, joy and pure bliss. It was amazing to watch and such a privilege to be able to be a part of this monumental start of their new journey together!

Once they had a few moments to themselves, our media team emerged and introduced themselves and began giving Hung and KhaDinh the star treatment ! They filmed and photographed the couple as they posed and played together in their very own movie, the story of their proposal, now recorded and memorialized to be treasured forever!
