Eternity Beach, East Oahu

Located on the east side on the island of Oahu, Hawaii and near Halona Lookout is Halona Beach Cove, also known as Eternity Beach. It was named after being featured for the famous kiss in the Academy Award winning movie “From here to eternity,” filmed in 1953. So, if you are a fan of old movies, definitely stop by and give this beach a look! Its natural beauty and ambiance is a sight for sore eyes as words and photos just don’t do it any justice.

Eternity beach can be accessed on the west side of Halona/Blowhole lookout and is a short walk down from the Halona parking lot.

Pro Tips:

Remember that while the parking lot and the view from it is wheelchair accessible, the path down is not and can be difficult to manage for people over the age of 65.

There is also no lifeguard on duty at Eternity beach so stay in the shallow areas and be cautious about jumping off the rocks.

My Dad, who has been fishing his entire life, has drilled this bit of wisdom into me “Never turn your back to the ocean. Treat it with the respect it deserves.” Which translates into; be mindful of your surroundings. As a youngin I’ve spent some time at the beach, sometimes not paying attention, which lead to being tossed around like a rag doll by the violently rolling sea. Sand everywhere! Not fun!

As far as destination weddings, surprise engagement proposals, or family portraits go, this is a wonderful hidden gem on Oahu, Hawaii. Not too many people venture here because of the walk, but it’s one of my favorite locations for photography! Your wedding photos will be sure to get a lot of “Oooos,” and “Aahhhss,” as the sky is majestically blue, the ocean is a dark jewel green, the waves crash on the rocks behind you, and everything looks surreal from right out of a movie.

In the last post we discussed Eternity Beach, located on the East side of Oahu. It’s such a surreal spot and one of my all time favorites for destination weddings, surprise engagement proposals, and family portraits.

Recently, I had the honor to photograph David and Samantha’s wedding. Everyone arrived and we started the careful and slow walk down to the ceremony site about 1 hour before sunset (the perfect time for photos). The colors of the sky and ocean complimented the dusty pink and royal blue attire of the bride and groom’s family, not to mention; Samantha looked stunning in her beautiful white lace wedding dress!

There was a little discussion of where to hold the ceremony and organizing of who stands where. After a big group picture, everything was set and the ceremony started. A close family friend officiated David and Samantha’s wedding and they read their promises to one another.

Samantha looked up at David with tears welling in her eyes. They shared so much love and gratitude together that even I was trying to hold my tears back. I can always tell when the water works are coming because I can feel that raw feeling at the back of my throat. Seeing her frown and try smile as he read his vows just added to that heartfelt moment. They exchanged rings

and a few laughs to lighten the mood and gazed deeply into each others eyes. It must have felt like a lifetime leading up to this moment on the beach as I’m sure all the happy memories flooded to the forefront of their minds.

After the “I do’s,” they sealed their vows with a kiss while being surrounded by the love and warmth of their family and friends. Everyone on the beach cheered “Chhheeeehooooo!!!” and said “Congratulations!” to share in this beautiful and momentous occasion.
