Popular Dates to Propose

By, Tabitha Miki CFD FDI

Aloha! I want to be the first to congratulate you on your journey to planning your proposal! I hope that by reading this blog you will feel better equipped on making that critical decision of setting the date of your proposal, especially if you are planning the big surprise in Oahu, Hawaii!

Once you have selected the date, the rest of the details seem to easily fall into place! (Especially if you hire a professional team).  The question remains: what date should I choose? For those of you who prefer to have data to support your decisions, below is a list ranked from most popular dates to least popular dates to propose.

Popular dates:

  •  Valentine’s Day (February 14)

  • The First Day You Met Your Partner (or first date)

  • Christmas Eve (December 24)

  • New Year’s Eve (December 31)

  • Christmas (December 25)

  • Other Dates

  • Day after Christmas (December 26)

What makes these dates so popular? Let’s take a look at the 3 most popular dates:

Valentine’s Day, the First Day You Met Your Partner, and Christmas Eve.  Valentine’s Day has always been associated with love, romance, and creating those special memories with your partner. It will also be an easy way to remember this special milestone in your life!

First Day You Met Your Partner is also an important milestone. It was the beginning of that journey and it often happens during special milestones in loved ones’ lives; i.e. a friend’s birthday party that they met at. It is because of this association to an event, it makes it easy to remember this milestone. It holds sentimental value to both parties.

Christmas is a great time to give gifts and be around family, and friends. The holiday season brings family together and if you are planning to have family around when you propose, it makes the process a little easier as most out of town guests will already be in town for the holidays.

Now that you have a list of popular dates to propose, and reasons they are popular, let's look at some other details to take into consideration when selecting a proposal date.

Considerations:

  • Do you want to plan a surprise destination proposal in Hawaii?

  • Should the proposal be a surprise?

  • Do you prefer to have a more private proposal, or do you mind having a bit of an audience?

  • Is it an easy date to remember, is it on a holiday or a special milestone in the relationship?

  • Will it be difficult for you or the team you hire to secure items, reservations, etc. for the date you have selected?

  • Is it during a busy season for you or your partner’s industry?

  • Is it  during a slow or  busy season for the team you hire, for their industry?

Once you answer these questions, it will be a lot easier to select a date. The date you choose will be tailored and special to you and your partner. It will also have been selected with a lot of thought, time, research, and consideration. This investment of your time is incredibly impressive to most partners!

This research also helps to improve your bottom line and preserve your budget as certain seasons, prices on various activities, items, and services rise and fall.
