Reflections on a day at La Pérouse
Aloha! This week I am back on the island of Maui and enjoying the venue scouting for our couples! Today’s secluded spot is La Pérouse, name for the french navigator Jean-François Galaup comte de Pérouse. This breathtaking spot situated south of Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve boasts majestic views of the island of Lana’i, gorgeous sunsets, and a mini beach hike trail that leads to an area that looks like it could have been an old lava tube, (more on the “lava tube” later).
I would recommend this stunning locale to those couples who enjoy the outdoors, camping, and hiking. The hiking trail is a lot of fun and the spirit of adventure beckons you to journey on with the promise of the perfect photo opportunity to show the world, I am making her my queen!
Personally, I really enjoyed being at La Pérouse and could imagine myself strolling through the trail and happily photographing the sites and allowing my imagination to run wild and allow myself to be inspired by its beauty. There is also something there that stirs the imagination and provides a type of mysterious yet romantic air. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but I could feel it sing its haunting, romantic song that serenaded me and put me under its spell. Maybe it was the stark black of the lava rocks, maybe all the secret nooks and mini tidepools, but whatever it was, I felt transported to a fairytale that was for me and My “White Knight” alone.
My favorite spot on La Pérouse was an area that can only be accessed through a trail that leads to a fairly secluded spot on the beach. It is an area that looks like an old lava tube, though I am unsure whether it is or not, but what drew me to the spot was the tunnel like entrance to the ocean! The playful ocean sprays those who draw too near to the edge, as if warning them to stay away or risk falling in! The tunnel is mysterious, romantic, and stirs emotions of adventure and whimsy! Whether you choose to do a posed photo here for a proposal or elsewhere on the beach, there are several options just in this one area! So bring your sense of adventure, imagination, and love of nature for a fun outdoors proposal!
Finally, a word of advice for those who seek to capture the moment here; bring a kit containing things you will need. For example: Hand sanitizer, a first aid kit, bottled water, sunscreen, a bag to put trash in. Need help with logistical details or would like us to help plan your destination proposal?
