Planning Your Hawaii Destination Proposal Speech
By, Tabitha Miki CFD FDI & Jolene Kaneshige - Proposal Coordinator
Aloha! Today I was inspired by watching a couple during their destination proposal on Oahu, Hawaii. It was beautiful! Everything was set up perfectly! However, our client was so nervous you couldn’t help feeling nervous for them. I’m sure the proposal speech was rehearsed a thousand times, but that’s not always going to stop those tricky nerves!
The proposal went beautifully despite the nerves and you could tell how their partner was simply elated! At the end of the day, it’s not about how eloquently you express your love in Hawaii, or how easily words come to you; it is about simply showing your partner and verbalizing that you love them and want to spend the rest of your life with them.
Which got me thinking. We will never truly be able to eliminate those nerves, it’s part of the experience, part of that milestone in life. We can however be proactive and provide ideas on how to help you feel more prepared so when the time comes to propose, you will be ready.
Proposal Speech preparation ideas:
Write your destination proposal speech on an index card, keep it simple, short and sweet, memorize it and keep it in your wallet.
Write bullet points of things you know you want to say on a post it note and keep that in your wallet.
Not into speeches? You could write a short, sweet letter and read it to your partner at the proposal and then the letter will always be a keepsake from your Oahu proposal!
Create your own photo book or story book with your favorite moments
Write a song for them and have the lyrics printed and ready at the location so you will have a copy for yourself to help you if nerves act up.
Make a video and show it to them on your phone (we live in a digital age after all!)
Instead of saying a speech you could write on little postcards, leading up to where you will be, what you love about your partner.
Close to family? You could have family members and friends hold up signs with what you love about your partner and hide behind the last person and when they take the sign away, you could be down on one knee ready to propose.
No matter what you choose to do, having a written form helps you to remember. You will feel prepared and ready to “rock this proposal”! The next step is to simply take a deep breath, relax and enjoy the moment with your partner! Having a plan is half the battle and will greatly help you when those nerves start jumping in. I hope with all my heart that these tips will help you on your proposal journey!! We wish you all the best!
