Traveling to Hawaii During Covid-19
The state of Hawaii has evolving entry requirements to make traveling safe for our visitors.
This is just a summary from information as of December 28th, 2020, of what you need to know. I have heard a lot of stories of visitors that were not allowed to leave the airport and had to return to their point of origin on the next flight out. If you are on your way to Hawaii to propose to your partner, get married, or for vacation...I don’t want this to be you!
Complete the “State of Hawaiʻi’s Safe Travels Hawaiʻi,” program application and get the QR code. Enter your travel information/trip details
Take a COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours before departure. The test must be a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) from a certified Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) lab. Click here for the list of partners.
Once you receive your results you will need to upload them to your “Safe Travels Hawai‘i account. VERY IMPORTANT! Airport officials will verify this information upon your entry to Hawaii.
There you have it! I hope that you found this short, sweet, and informational. 2020 has been a very torrential year with many ups and downs for Hawaii. I was thinking ok...it could be worse...the volcano could be erupting while we are still in the midst of the pandemic and sure enough on December 20th, 2020, Kilauea started to erupt again!
It is my hope that 2021 will be more than a silver lining. It's taken Hawaii a lot of teamwork to get to this point of welcoming visitors back with open arms. There were months of uncertainty and waiting, but I think we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!
In closing, please be safe; adhere to social distancing guidelines, wear a mask, wash your hands often, and be respectful to those around you. Remember, YOU are setting the example for other visitors and even with a negative COVID test, that does not guarantee that you are “safe,” rather safe for the time being. The new strain of COVID-19 is making its rounds and we all need to stay vigilant, we are in this together.
