A Kailua Sunrise Proposal Story

Kailua Sunrise Proposal

How did they meet?

Shane & Elizabeth were High School sweethearts.  “She went with me to my senior prom and we started dating shortly after.”  These 2 lovebirds have been inseparable ever since!

Shane shared with me something that I thought of as wisdom.

“My biggest mistake was that we ring shopping about a year ago and she’s been expecting a proposal ever since.  I really wanted to make it extra special.”

This really stuck with me because you want that moment to be an absolute surprise and you want that “Yes,” to come straight from the heart.

The Perfect Proposal Opportunity

When Elizabeth planned to be on vacation, with friends in Oahu, Shane saw this as the perfect opportunity.  That’s where we come in!  Shane contacted me and told me his vision.  A sunrise on the beach, a “Will You Marry Me Sign,” with orchid leis, he would wait until she approached and lead her into the rose petal heart while our musician played love songs and Hawaiian music in the background.  He wanted her to walk towards him and hear music.

He had the help of a few friends who would guide Elizabeth to our location and our plan was set! They would tell her that they were going on a sunrise cruise and would arrive at Kailua Beach bright and early.

Where did all the rental cars go?

There was a little bit of a challenge because finding a rental car was near impossible due to COVID-19.  Fleets of rental cars were not able to keep up with demand because Hawaii went from 0 to 100% tourism overnight.  Shane said he would catch the bus to our location, but I really didn’t want him to do that for fear something could happen!

I arranged to pick him up from his hotel bright and early and thankfully the drive to the location was uneventful.  He was so excited and nervous (the butterflies are real.)  While we were setting up the rose petal heart, he nervously paced and texted to make sure she would arrive exactly when the sun would rise above the ocean.

Slowly and surely she walked down the beach with her entourage.  One friend walked in front of her to record her expression at the moment when she would realize that he was waiting for her.  “Wait...WHAT? Nooo way!” she shouted!  She was all smiles and ran to him.  He took her by the hand and led her to the rose petal heart while “Marry Me” by Bruno Mars played on the guitar by our musician.  Shane got onto one knee and said the magic words “Will you Marry Me!”

I will never forget the way she smiled at him when she said YES!  The crowd also gave a roaring cheer and said “Congratulations!”
