Proposal Story: The Spotted Ninja

I feel especially inspired to write things because it JUST HAPPENED.  I’ve been planning this proposal on Oahu for weeks.  We spared no expense and had a full LUX picnic set up, rose petals, sparkling cider, bouquet of roses, a musician, the sun was setting, everything was a picture perfect dream Hawaii proposal.  I was tucked away in my corner hiding spot, behind a bush, just waiting for my couple to walk in...except they did...from the wrong place!

NINJA FAIL!

She spotted me immediately looking very SUSPECT!  I don’t know if you ever got your hand caught in the cookie jar, but that was me while trying to keep my composure.  My heart skipped a few beats and I tried not to move, freak out, or panic.  I did the FREEZE thing and my mantra repeating in my head was “Please, please, please keep walking and don’t stare at me or suspect anything!”  I was also trying really hard not to face palm or show signs of defeat.  This was extremely difficult, but somehow I got through it!

What happened?”

Luckily, they kept walking and eventually made it to the designated proposal spot. The music was playing, everything else went according to plan, and the proposal was a success!  WHEW!  We did it!  We survived!  It wasn’t a total fail and the photos look great!  Now that I’ve had some time to decompress and reflect on the scenario it really got me thinking…

Recon logistics information was sent and acknowledged.  It's the nerves that got in the way.  Think about it this way… You want to propose to the partner of your dreams and you want it to be a total surprise, and the stress makes you do strange things.  Everything that was planned and discussed in advance got thrown out the window.  It happens, the world is upside down, you somehow manage to find the place and muddle through your words to ask them “Will you Marry Me?”  It's important to remember that your partner loves you for being you!  They also love that you went out of your way to plan something super sweet and romantic.  That’s a lot of brownie points right there!

Here’s some helpful advice to help with stress management (easier said than done, I know!).

  • Take a few calming deep breaths and focus on your breathing

  • Review all the logistics information before leaving for the venue

  • Slow down, remember that you got this and you are working with a team of professionals that are here to help make your proposal a success!

  • Activate your cool, calm, carefree self

  • Take your time walking to the proposal site

Remember that if not everything works out as planned, only you know that.  It also adds to making an EPIC proposal story later.  Think about the adversity and the fact that it was overcome with the proposal being a great success!  Remember that time when…
