Selecting the Best Date for your Surprise Proposal

The sun is shining, love is in the air and your thoughts are filled with one thing, your partner. You have just purchased a gorgeous engagement ring and booked your plane tickets to Hawaii, your heart is pounding, your mind is racing, and you are filled with all this excitement! What to do next? Plan the most epic surprise proposal! How do I do that? When? What are the best dates to consider? Don’t worry! We got you covered!

Unlike the most popular dates to propose, if your partner is just too smart and is really good at playing detective, you may want to stay away from popular holidays like Valentines, New Year’s, and Christmas. I know, your next thought is, “What day is the best day”? Honestly, there is no right or wrong answer, but we have compiled a list of tips to help you select a date in order to keep the proposal a secret.

Days to consider:

  • Select a date that is sentimental

  • Count the number of days that you have been together.  For example: the date of your proposal could be day number 1234 or 2000+. (Ask us about a custom commemorative sign!)

  • Look to obscure newly created “holidays” like national sweetheart’s day, or national red rose day.

  • Reminisce and think back to an event  that is meaningful to both of you, but not traditionally celebrated by most couples. (For example, the first time you met her parents, or the day you first said, “ I love you”, or your first kiss, or the day you first wrote her a love letter).

  • If you travel a lot together, then plan a trip around an event both of you would go to anyways. Then have a surprise destination proposal in Hawaii!

  • If your partner travels a lot for business, but still has a day off in the middle of the trip, ask their boss for permission to surprise them there.

Days to stay away from:

  • Major holidays such as Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day.

  • Your partner’s birthday.

  • Your own birthday.

  • Major sports events.
