The Clean Up

By, Tabitha Miki CFD FDI

Nothing hurts more than walking on the beach and seeing trash, so our team makes sure to clean our areas after every romantic proposal.  Hawaii is home to many gorgeous flora and fauna, as well as boasting some of the most amazing sunsets!! I have always felt incredibly blessed to call this island paradise home and what better way to honor that then by keeping it clean?! Especially our beautiful beaches!!!

Today, I want to share a glimpse of our clean up process.  It's just as important to set up as it is to take down and clean up the area in use.  For every surprise proposal we set up, we always make sure our tool kits for our team have a clean up kit.  Our kit includes: sifting shovels, buckets, trash bags, disinfectant wipes, gloves, and extra masks.

Q. Why a sifting shovel?

A. The sifting shovel helps us separate the used rose petals from the sand.

Q. Why do we try to clean up as many rose petals as possible post proposal?

A. The rose petals were brought in by us and as pretty as it is, we want to keep our venues clean and in better condition than when we found it! Although foliage is biodegradable, it’s not part of any marine animal’s diet and does take time to decompose.

Q. What else do we do to clean up?

A. Clean up will always vary on the type of surprise proposal that we have planned with our clients

Here are a few of the things we do to clean up and to keep our tools and props clean.

  • Dispose of any trash into the designated job site trash area

  • Fold picnic blankets (if applicable) and put it with the throw pillows in the laundry bag.

  • Put away all props and candles in buckets to be disinfected.

  • Sift and put rose petals in a rose petal bag.

  • Level sand down from any sand structures constructed for proposal.

  • Pack all the above in our vehicles to be transported.

  • Outside the office, disinfect ALL tools, props, candles, picnic basket, and buckets.

  • Place items on the clean rack and towel dry with the clean towels before bringing it into the office to be stored.

  • Throw away the trash in the outside office bin.

  • Dispose of the rose petals in the green waste bin outside the office.

  • Take the laundry bag and its contents to be washed.

We take pride in creating the most romantic proposals that take all the guesswork out of the equation for our clients! This includes cleaning up after the event. It may be the less glamorous part of our job, but one we take very seriously. Any venue we use, whether it is on the beach, garden, or at a hotel; we want to make it a place everyone can enjoy long after our presence. Like our ninja photographer, we want to be stealthy, amazing, then leave without a trace!
